Me and Miki my Concert Ticket Agent
Vienna is a city that lives on pastry (Sacher Torte and Apfel Strudel) and music. Today we went light on the first and heavy on the second.
The day began with a visit to the Antique musical instrument rooms at the Hofburg, continued with Mozart's house and ended with a stirring Strauss & Mozart concert.

Museum of Historical Musical Instruments
The Collection of Historic Musical Instruments is home to the most important collection of renaissance and baroque instruments worldwide. Furthermore, the museum keeps, maintains and presents numerous instruments that were played by famous musicians and composers. The collection includes a particularly comprehensive range of clavichords and Viennese fortepianos. The world of sound in which the composers of Viennese Classicism lived can be heard and understood here in a nearly complete fashion. The holdings of the collection have their origins in Habsburg holdings; they have since been continually expanded via purchases, gifts and loans. The Matinees of the Collection of Historic Musical Instruments give visitors the opportunity to both see and hear the instruments, insofar as their condition allows them to be played.
Mozarthaus Vienna presents the life and work of the musical genius Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, with particular emphasis on his Vienna years from 1781 to 1791, in a unique setting in the heart of Vienna close to St Stephen’s Cathedral.
Domgasse 5 is the only one of Mozart’s apartments in Vienna that still exists today. The composer lived in Mozarthaus Vienna in grand style from 1784 to 1787. Nowhere else did he compose
more music.
Visitors can see not only the historical apartment but also an
extensive presentation of major works by Mozart and of the times in which he lived. There is also a museum shop and the Concert Hall, which is a concert and event location.
Strauss & Mozart
A delightful evening featuring 2 singers, 2 dancers and as always the Radetsky March finale with a clapping audience.
As a footnote we arrived moments before the concert began and the concertmaster announced to the audience that there would be slight delay as the soloist was running a few moments behind–a cue for me to announce - I am here! followed by a few notes from an opera aria by yours truly that received thunderous applause.
Hotel Beethoven
For me there is only one place to stay in Vienna where Barbara Ludwig will pamper you and Leopold will protect you. We fell in love with it on our first visit and it was equally wonderful the second time around.
It's centrally located –nearly everything you want to see is in short walking distances and in keeping with the cultural identity of the city each floor reflects a specific theme as do the rooms: in our case we slept in the Klimt room.
Bountiful breakfasts on the mezzanine where a piano recital is performed at 5PM every Sunday and a lively lobby bar where Isabelle Lombardo will serve a perfectly mixed cocktail.
When reserving please be sure to tell Barbara that you are a friend of Terrance.
